To all the readers who have found yourselves at my new blog, welcome. My name is Kara, and I am from New South Wales in Australia.
From a young age, I was immersed into a childhood that was abundant with road trips and camping in diverse, and sometimes isolated locations. My family and I have travelled throughout many parts of Australia including New South Wales, Western Australia, Queensland, South Australia and the Northern Territory. Over the years, we have road tripped across the Great Australian Outback three times, from which I have grown quite fond of the Northern Territory and its remote treasures. However, I must admit that my heart and soul has always remained with the sea.
These travels elicited many rich and surreal experiences that have influenced me as an individual in many ways. It allowed me to discover my passion for photography, develop an appreciation for nature and the sea, and it has also established the foundations of my perspectives and values, thus shaping me into the person that I am today.
As mentioned, I am a nature lover, marine enthusiast, and I love photography. My other interests and hobbies include; swimming, writing, poetry, painting, camping, bushwalking, wakeboarding, water polo, reading, playing guitar, and every now and then I like to experiment with making videos.
This year will signify the beginning of my experience as a student at the University of Wollongong. I am studying a Bachelor of Communications and Media Studies, majoring in Journalism and Professional Writing. Initially, I was drawn to this course as I wanted to gain skills and knowledge that will enable me to create meaningful content, and improve my ability to share experiences, perspectives and values through written mediums that can complement my photography. In terms of my career goals, I aspire to combine my passion for writing and photography to work for a lifestyle magazine or media platform, and connect with people through both visual and written mediums.
It is through this media platform that the skills I have learnt at university will be displayed, and my experience of contributing to the contemporary communications industry will be shared.
I hope you enjoy the visit and stay updated with my progress.
